Variable West is “a nonprofit magazine that supports and empowers the West Coast art world by nurturing regional communities and international conversations.” Wa Na Wari is “an immersive community art project that reclaims Black cultural space and makes a statement about the importance of Black land ownership in gentrified communities.” They have partnered to offer an art writer residency program based in Seattle, Washington. The residency will place “two writers in deep engagement with Wa Na Wari to produce six 600–800-word pieces of critical writing about the organization’s programming to be published on Variable West.” Rate for each piece will be $600. Writers based in Washington and those from the African diaspora are especially encouraged to apply. To learn more, refer to this post and this page.
