Contingent Magazine is a history magazine. They’re accepting pitches for their eighth special December issue exploring the intersection of The Simpsons and history. Possible essays can focus on:
- Specific episodes and characters;
- The show’s constantly shifting timeline and flashbacks;
- The writers and animators behind the show;
- The history internal to the world of The Simpsons;
- The series as a primary source for political, cultural, and media history.
They welcome pitches from anyone but prioritize contributors who have completed postgraduate work in history and work outside the tenure-track professoriate. They pay $150 for mini-essays (500 to 1,000 words) and $300 for shorts (1,000 to 2,000 words). For details, refer to this post and this page.
Deadline: November 9th, 2026
