Guidelines

Canada's National Observer is an independent news site founded in 2015. They open to pitches from freelance creators. They look for entertaining, character-driven stories based on research, interviews and facts, and their areas of interest are not limited to climate change and the environment, although that's their core coverage. According to their pitch guide, their rates for assigned reporting and artwork are competitive. To learn more, refer to this page.

Canada's National Observer is seeking pitches on climate, energy, and politics reporting across Canada

Canada's National Observer is "connecting the dots between climate, energy and politics in Canada." They're looking for in-depth investigations, scoops, and character-driven stories rather than daily news or event coverage, with particular interest in reporting from Québec, Atlantic Canada, and the North. Stories run about 1,000–2,500 words, and rates start at $0.75 per word. To learn more, refer to their Bluesky thread and pitch guidelines.
