Island is a Tasmanian literary and arts magazine publishing poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and graphic narratives in print and on Island Online (distinct from Earth Island Journal). They welcome nonfiction from Australian and New Zealand writers during dated windows—including online nonfiction of about 1,500 words—via Submittable. According to their submission guidelines, Island Online pays A$600 for short-form nonfiction (and fiction/graphic narratives); print fiction and nonfiction pay 40 cents per word (minimum A$600, maximum A$1,500), with fees reduced by the cost of a four-issue subscription for non-subscribers.
