This is an award-winning magazine of horror and dark fantasy. They also publish nonfiction and poetry. They have opened a brief reading period for short fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction; while general submissions are closed now, they are still open for submissions from BIPOC writers.

Nightmare is open for submissions

This is an award-winning horror and dark fantasy magazine. It has opened one of its rare submission periods. “No subject should be considered off-limits, and we encourage writers to take chances with their fiction and push the envelope.” They are open now for BIPOC-only submissions – for flash fiction, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction; and later, for a brief period, for general submissions from all writers – flash fiction, poetry, and nonfiction, according to their submission portal. Please see the time zones/times for the open and close period on their portal. Do not send them work previously rejected by Lightspeed or Fantasy magazines. They do not accept reprints.
Deadline: 13 March for BIPOC writers; reading period 13-20 March for all writers
Length: Up to 1,500 words for flash fiction; 1,500-7,500 words for short stories (up to 5,000 words preferred); up to 5 poems; up to 1,000 words for creative non-fiction
Pay: $0.08/word for fiction; $75 for essays in The Horror Lab and and $0.08/word for other nonfiction; $40/poem
