Word range for feature articles is typically 2,500 words, book reviews 500 to 700 words and news stories 500 words. According to their contributor guidelines, writers can expect to be paid between $100 and $1,000 for articles, depending on length.

Planning Magazine seeks urban planning-related news stories and quick write-ups about cool new podcasts, maps, tools, etc.

Planning Magazine is the flagship publication of the American Planning Association. They are looking for new people and ideas. Writers should contact their associate editor if they have an urban planning-related news pitch or if they want to do “a quick write up about a cool new podcast, map, planning tool, etc.” They pay $0.65 per word for news stories (600 to 900 words).
