  • Chesapeake Family is a free monthly parenting magazine for parents in the Chesapeake region of Maryland. Editors look for easy-to-read useful material and want their readers “to feel understood, supported and empowered to make healthy parenting and life choices and learn something they don’t already know.” Editors consider both original articles and reprints.   • Metro Family Magazine aims to inform parents and empower families. The magazine is “distributed in Edmond, NW OKC, Nichols Hills, South OKC, Moore, Norman, Yukon and Midwest City.” They are accepting submissions from Oklahoma City area parents for these themes/categories: day in the life (750 words or less); and personal columns (at least 1 photo, 1,000 words or less). They previously indicated payment of $20-$35 for articles that are up to 500 words and $35-$50 for articles that are over 500 words, but current rates are unclear. Read their submission guidelines here.

  • Hudson Valley Parent is a New York-based publication The magazine is available free of charge and aims to provide reliable information of interest to their readers located in Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, and Sullivan counties...the mid-Hudson Valley of New York. According to their guidelines, they pay $80 for for locally-slanted, assigned one-page story of 700-800 words, and $90-$120 for 1,200 word or more features. Payment for reprints is $25.   • Honolulu Magazine is a regional magazine for the city of Honolulu. They're not a travel magazine, they're a magazine for the residents of the city. They use freelance writers on a wide variety of subjects, including personality profiles, history, sports, politics and lifestyle trends, but all must be related to Hawai‘i.   • Okanagan Life is a “regional character magazine” that covers the Okanagan Valley from Salmon Arm to Osoyoos. They previously indicated to be accepting queries for pieces that celebrate the people and places of the region, with emphasis on its pastoral nature, and that pay was 20 to 25 cents per published word ($100 to $125 for a 500-word article).   • BELLA covers the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate area. They provide the “inside scoop about beauty, wellness, and life in the New York area.” Our previous research indicated they were accepting queries for feature articles, 500 to 1,000 words.   • Oregon Coast is a family-oriented magazine that covers the current developments, festivals, and other happenings in the Oregon Coast region. They publish 6 times a year. They feature stories of regional interest. According to their guidelines, they pay $100-$300 for regular features (450-1,250 words), $250-$450 for special features (1,250-2,500 words), $450-$650 for regional roundups (2,000-3,000 words), and $225 for restaurant features (850 words).
