They are open to pitches on album reviews, single reviews and written features. They especially want to use their platform to give a voice to more Black writers, as well as other minority groups that have historically been underrepresented. According to their pitch guide, review pay rates are agreed with writers before work is commissioned. Fees are based on a number of factors, including word count and deadline.   • Thrillist is a digital media publication at the intersection of travel, experience, and local culture. They accept pitches directly from freelance writers. They publish travel guides, maps, and itineraries for destinations, as well as profiles of people and interesting places. They state to pay competitive rates.   • Wealth of Geeks is a website that offers tips and tricks to grow your wealth. The website also keeps you up-to-date with tech, gaming, pop-culture, movies, and celebrities. According to our previous research, they were interested in stories related to “personal finance, travel, autos, entertainment, sports, or geek culture, and pay started at $150.   • Going offers cheap flight deals. They regularly seek calls for pitches on a variety of travel related topics. According to their write for us page, their rates range from $250 to $600.

  • Resonate is an online travel publication. They publish local stories from around the globe. The type of articles that they look for are: destination guides (1,500-2,000 words); burning issues (600-1,000 words); game changers (600-1,000 words); local stories (600-1,000 words); and travellers’ tales (600-1,000 words). According to their writers guidelines, they pay €100. 

  • Ori Magazine is a twice-a-year travel magazine that publishes stories by talented local journalists. They would love to receive pitches from writers.   • Food & Wine is a monthly magazine (by Meredith Corporation) about food, recipes, drinks, restaurants, and culinary travel. They’re interested in receiving pitches from writers, recipe developers, as well as photographers.   • Ride Texas Magazine is a quarterly print and digital travel magazine for Texas’ motorcyclists. Their readers and writers ride motorcycles.   • Economic Hardship Reporting Project (EHRP) is a nonprofit organization that produces compelling journalism about income inequality and poverty in America. They commission “news stories, narrative features, short and feature-length documentaries, nonfiction comics, illustrated works, photo essays, podcasts and radio features about economic inequality in the United States. Personal essays are welcome only if they are completed or close-to-completed. According to their pitch guide, they pay $750 to $1500 for news stories, and up to $2,500 for narrative features and investigative reports. They generally pay $1.00 to $1.25 per word. They also have grants to cover travel expenses, up to $2,000. 

  • Portland Monthly is a magazine that covers food, style, shopping, arts, culture, travel, and more in Portland, Oregon. On their website, they accept pitches for their 7 major channels: Eat & Drink, Style & Shopping, Arts & Culture, News & City Life, Travel & Outdoors, Home & Real Estate, and Health & Wellness.
