The VP Chicago is “a Black-led independent news organization focused on the storytelling and solutions that matter to residents of Chicago’s South and West sides.” They’re seeking Chicago-based journalists:

“The VP Chicago is looking for education journalists to cover the November school board election. This is the first time every seat on Chicago's school board goes to voters. The decisions that follow will shape what happens inside South Side schools for years.”

“I'm looking for freelancers who know this part of the city. You've lived here or have real relationships in the South Side neighborhoods with an emphasis on the underserved Far South Side. No parachute journalism. If you're a reporter, photojournalist, or trusted creator and want to explore what's not already being said about the election, please send me a few clips or your portfolio to kelly@thevpchicago.org. All assignment types are paid (stories at ~$300).”
